Ingredient in the Spotlight: Chia!

For many of us, our first exposure to chia seeds involved small clay figures that you could sprinkle with the seeds, add water, and presto- Chia Pet with green hair.

Instead of accessorizing cheesy knick-knacks, chia seeds were an important food source for many ancient cultures. The Mayan word for strength is chia. Aztec warriors used chia seeds as a high energy food while on conquests.

The wise ancients recognized the nutritional virtues of this tiny seed.

Packed with power, Chia seeds are a good source of protein and fiber and have an extremely high concentration of essential fatty acids with more omega-3 than even salmon!!

Chia is an ingredient featured in our Almond, Cherry and Chocolate Festival Cookie. Enjoy and know with every bite you are partaking with the strength of the ancients.
